informative post As most of you know, I’m a new chicken mommy. We got 5 baby chicks for our girls (OK, they were for me!) on Easter.
can you buy topamax over the counter in australia These are them as babies:
They stayed in a small rabbit cage until they were about 3-4 months old and it was getting a little crowded in there:
Now, they live in their deluxe coop outside full time.
In Florida. In summer.
The past few weeks have been brutal here (with real feel temperatures in the 100s- NOT KIDDING)
So, I decided to whip up some treats for them to keep them cool.
I took some corn and shucked it off the cob.
I put it in the bottom of a silicone tray (I think it’s supposed to be used for brownies lol) and topped it with water.
Then, I freezed them and got frozen corn treats for our girls! (Yes, they’re all girls now!)
*side note: we recently “traded” out our rooster for another hen. Meet Dory:
They ate them right up!
Bonus: Our newest girl decided to lay eggs the day after I gave her these treats! Coincidence? I think not!
I never thought I’d grow up to be that crazy chicken lady, but here I am, killin’ it:
“In an old house in Paris that was covered in vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines.”
For a while, I had been eyeing some cute Madeline dresses I had seen on Pinterest.
I happen to be lucky and have a very crafty grandma who can sew, and I asked her to make them for me.
She offered to help.
Oh grandma, you cruel, cruel woman.
So I reluctantly bought a pattern from Etsy and cut it out.
And there it sat for about two months.
Right before my grandma left to go back to Michigan (snowbirds. ugh), she had me over to her house and we busted out one of the dresses in a few hours.
Then, she left.
And I had the sew the next one. By. My. Self. *gasp*
With a little help from the hubby, we finished both dresses (we had to sew on buttons and make button holes) in about 2-3 days.
Then, I bought some hats from Amazon and added a little extra long black ribbon.
Let me just tell you: They. Were. Presh.
Don’t take my word for it. See for yourself:
Side note: these pictures were taken in Downtown Plant City. GREAT place for taking pictures!!!
After we made our whole chicken, I used some of the left over meat, plus lots of veggies to make a delicious quiche I’ve been eating every day since!
Here are the veggies I used:
leftover corn (cut off the cob)
All put in the bottom of a pre-made pie crust. Poke holes in the bottom of the pie crust first with a fork!
Then, in a bowl I whisked together 4 eggs and 1-2 tablespoons of whole milk (you could also use Half and Half).
Pour the egg mixture over the veggies in the pie crust.
Top with cheese! You could use shredded, but I just sliced some off the block of cheese. I used organic cheddar cheese.
Then I baked it in the oven at 400 for 20-25 minutes.
I have been dreaming about food since I was on the 3-Day Refresh.
I took out a whole chicken to cook on Sunday night and we didn’t eat it until Thursday night! LOL
For our chicken, I cooked it on a roasting pan with a rack (so it didn’t sit in the juices and got all soggy)
I wanted it to be crispy!
After being on the Refresh for 3 days (WITH NO COFFEE), I couldn’t wait to have my coffee the morning after…
When I first started drinking coffee, I was in college and it was Caramel Frappuccino (with extra caramel!)
After college, I drank it with creamer and sugar.
When I went “low-carb,” I used Splenda or another artificial sweetener.
After a few years, I started going more organic and more all-natural, especially when I was pregnant, I became acutely aware that what I was putting in my body went right the the baby.
Here’s how I make my coffee every morning:
10 oz. organic brewed coffee (I use our Keurig)
1 tsp organic coconut oil
1/2 tsp agave nectar
1/4 cup almond milk
Blend! And Enjoy!
After having family in town, a bachelorette party, our anniversary, a wedding and the Fourth ofJuly, I had indulged quite a bit over the last couple of months…
and was feeling bloated and just all-around yucky…
Enter the 3-Day Refresh.
I had done it once before (successfully)
And failed miserably the time I tried to do it with my husband (eek).
I just finished the cleanse and here are my results:
Didn’t think I’d give it right away, did ya? 😉
To get the results, here’s what I ate for 3 days:
I use this recipe as my afternoon snack most of the time.
They help whenever I’m feeling “hangry.”
1/3 cup natural peanut butter
3 tablespoons flax seeds, ground
1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
The original recipe called for 3 tablespoons of dark chocolate chips as well, but I feel that, with the chocolate protein powder, it wasn’t necessary.
I scoop these out (about a tablespoon size) onto a piece of parchment paper-lined tupperware and refrigerate.
Then, enjoy one a day for about a week!
(P.S. This is a hubby-friendly snack too!)
This Fourth of July, we had a ‘Murica pool party at our house.
I started by looking for some red, white and blue food on Pinterest.
I also got some pretty sweet balloons from Publix.
Watermelon, raspberries, cherries and strawberries were the red.
Blueberries were the blue.
And the white was yogurt-covered pretzels.
I made some brownies and used a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut them out and then drizzled them with some red frosting and blue sprinkles.
I also used the cookie cutter for the watermelon.
For our drinks, we made Peach Iced Tea Whiskey from Tasty and it was delicious!
After the girls are in bed, Eric and I like to watch TV (or blog!) on the couch and have dessert (isn’t this what ALL parents do after the kids are asleep?!)
Eric is partial to chocolate chip cookies from Publix and a glass of milk, but that’s not exactly on the 21-Day Fix or any of my other clean eating plans.
Enter the Shakeo Mug Cake! It has been a lifesaver!
This is one of my favorite Shakeology recipes!
I use this on days I haven’t yet gotten my shake in yet (I know, crazy!)
And it feels like a cheat/ dessert, because it’s chocolate but it’s NOT!
I found this recipe on Pinterest and it has pretty much been my favorite. I tweaked it a bit (no salt, etc.) and have been enjoying it ever since!
Now that the Fourth of July craziness is all over, I’m back on my normal clean eating regime, which includes yummy recipes like this one!
When I used to eat oatmeal, it was full of brown sugar and maple syrup and it was mostly instant and from a packet.
I wish I knew how to make oatmeal like this back when I was breastfeeding!
Now, I make it with tons of fresh fruit, nuts and other yumminess and I don’t even miss that sugary sweet instant nonsense from before!
