B is for…..

Continuing our letters of the week, we started with B. Here my list for B:

bear

butterfly

bee

brown

beans

beach

ball

bird

blocks

bubbles

button

I always use a printable do-a-dot page for each letter and this time, I had Addie put buttons on dot before.

For Addie, we did an uppercase B for bird and I cut out her feathers, feet and beak. She glued it all on plus eyeballs.

I also made a couple of bird themed sensory boxes with fake birds, nests, worms and bird seed.

Emma did a lowercase b for bear and I’ve been having her cut out the letters from construction paper and glue them to white paper.

We also did a dance (music and movement) to the Teddy Bear song.

For lunch, we had butterfly snacks made out of Ziploks filled with grapes and Goldfish and a clothespin in the middle. I also made chocolate and pretzel butterflies.

The next morning, I made our table into a beach theme. We painted beach balls and I made a beach sensory box from Kinetic sand, a drink umbrella, a doll house chair and seashells.

Emma also made a b is for brown beans with kidney beans, pinto beans and white beans (all purchased from the Dollar store)

We also made bumblebees with paper plates, black paint, large googly eyes and pipe cleaners.

For Emma, we’ve started an interactive journal for her for each letter. We go through magazines, Highlights and grocery ads looking for things that begin with that letter.

Lastly, I made Addie a bubbles and blocks box, which, tbh, was not a big hit. Happy learning!  Continue reading

Incorporating Veggies: Healthy Eating for Kids

Then Irma came and we all decided to eat Hurricane food (read: unhealthy) so we’re starting to get back into our routine now.

It’s not the first time I’ve tried to get my kids to eat veggies (and I’m sure it won’t be the last).

Here are some of the things I’ve done to help get them to eat the dreaded V-word (that sounded dirty).

1) Zucchini muffins (and bread)

Shredding the zucchini and adding chocolate chips pretty much guarantees they’ll get eaten.

2) Aldi spinach bites
