Life is All Rainbow & Unicorns

Birthdays are kind of a big deal for me.

So, this year, even though it’s not a milestone birthday, I threw myself (yep) a Rainbows & Unicorns pool party (my birthday is in the middle of summer).

First, I started a Pinterest board.

1) Finding Unicorn/ Rainbow food that’s not candy/ donuts/ cake/ sweets is REALLY HARD! Here’s what I came up with:

Unicorn Horn Pasta Salad

Crescent Dog Twists

Unicorn Popcorn (still had some candy drizzled on top)

Crescent Rolls with chicken salad

Unicorn Droppings (aka jelly beans)

Unicorn Farts were a huge hit with everyone at the party (cotton candy)

Unicorn Bacon was Airheads Rainbow Sour Belts

Rice Krispie Treats with Fruity Pebbles (LOVED this!)

Birthday Party theme: Foxes

I still have yet to mail out Thank You cards from the party, but here’s my blog on it LOL

Our littlest one has been obsessed with foxes since Zootopia came out last year.

She even has a Nick Wilde sweater. She wore it to Animal Kingdom and scared Mickey Mouse pretending to be a fox.

So, a Fox party was definitely in the cards for her. Finding fox party decor, on the other hand, not so easy.

She started preschool at the beginning of the month, so every Wednesday and Thursday leading up to her party were used for shopping, ordering, crafting, etc.

I started by getting these at Walmart:

They ended up becoming a banner for the party, hot glued to twine.

Then, I headed to good ol’ Joann’s. I got felt for felt masks, fake flowers for headbands, orange and black card stock. You know, my supplies!

New Traditions: Friendsgiving

For the last couple of years, my husband and I have talked about having a Friendsgiving, but it wasn’t until this year that I made it happen.

Since it’s Thanksgiving break, lots of our friends are out of school and work, so we settled on a day during the week to have all the mommies and kids over for snacks and crafts.

We made paper plate turkeys by:

1) coloring the paper plates brown
2) cutting out feathers
3) gluing the feathers to the back of the paper plate
4) hot gluing googly eyes
5) hot gluing a stick (if needed/ wanted)

Then, the kids played outside on the playground/ with Legos, etc.

We had lunch of Chick-fil-a nuggets (because all kids eat those, right?!), broccoli cheese casserole, candied yams, pumpkin pie, veggie straws, Tee Pees, Corn Pops and more. It was potluck and all the moms brought a dish to share.

Birthday Party: Flamingo & Pineapple

Hello, August!

Which also means it’s MY BIRTHDAY (month)!

image

This year, I decided to do a Flamingo & Pineapple theme, which was SO FUN! And very apropos because it’s the summer!

Plus, the Dollar Store had TONS of party supplies!!

I started by printing out several printables and putting them in picture frames all around the house.

image

Then, I created a banner for the fireplace. I hand-cut flamingos and pineapples.

image

Then, my husband gave me my birthday present: a FUCKING Cricut!!!!!!!!

image

Complete game changer.

Every day for 4 days after, I made something for my party. So far, I’ve made a pineapple and flamingo shirt, plus a flamingo mug and a cake topper.

image

For the food, we had TONS of pineapple! I made a strawberry tree with a pineapple top, Hawaiian tortellini salad, sausage and pineapple bites, spinach and strawberry said with poppyseed dressing, plus watermelon and grapes.

Here are some more details from the party:

Pineapple sunglasses: Oriental Trading

Pineapple cups: Party City

Hair Clips: Peace Love and Glitz

Aloha Cake Topper: Jolee Studio

Flamingo cookie cutter & pool float: Amazon

All in all, it was a great party!

Fourth of July: Food Ideas & More

This Fourth of July, we had a ‘Murica pool party at our house.

I started by looking for some red, white and blue food on Pinterest.

I also got some pretty sweet balloons from Publix.

Watermelon, raspberries, cherries and strawberries were the red.

Blueberries were the blue.

And the white was yogurt-covered pretzels.

I made some brownies and used a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut them out and then drizzled them with some red frosting and blue sprinkles.

I also used the cookie cutter for the watermelon.

For our drinks, we made Peach Iced Tea Whiskey from Tasty and it was delicious!

Dollar Store Decor: 4th of July Edition

I am all about saving money, BUT I’m also all about parties. I mean, who isn’t?

So, one of my go-to ways to throw an awesome party but still have a budget is to visit the dollar store.

I just went to one last week and picked up lots of stuff for our upcoming 4th of July ‘Murica Party.

The dollar store is always good for: paper plates and napkins! But this time I also found some super cute (and on trend) paper straws.

We also got the kids Pop-Its (remember those? I used to think they were magic!) and Party Poppers.

I also picked up some decor for my birthday party in August, but I’ll save that for another post! (hint: it’s flamingo/ pineapple themed!)

Happy Independence Day, America!

Camping Birthday Party

This past week, my husband turned 33. It’s not a big milestone birthday but I still wanted to do something for it. So, I planned a camping party, since we are going camping next weekend!

For ideas, I scoured Pinterest and made my own Camping Party board there.

We made this sign from scrap wood laying around in the garage. I accidentally spelled our name wrong! LOL I fixed it the day of the party.

Winnie the Pooh 2nd Birthday Party

So, I’ve been wanting to write my first blog post and I thought my daughter’s 2nd birthday party would be a good place to start. Addie turned TWO and loves Winnie the Pooh, so that was the theme we choose for her party.

Of course, I started a Pinterest board for it.

We decorated with books. And I had my husband pick up the tulips at Publix the day of the party. In the jar are “Honey Bears” a.k.a. Teddy Grahams 😉

I got these clay pots at the Dollar Store! 2 pots for $1!

I made Roo’s Ranch Dip with a packet of Ranch mix and half plain Greek yogurt and half sour cream (trying to make a healthier version!)

These were just potato chips.

If you’re wondering where I got all the signs for the food, I Googled pictures of the characters and put them into a Word document in two columns and used different fonts and colors to go with them.

Here are Piglet’s Pigs in a Blanket.

These Hunny Ham Sandwiches were the bomb! I got the recipe here.

I got these containers from Walmart for $5 each and it’s just some Countrytime Lemonade and Publix Sweet Tea! I got the paper straws from Publix also and the cups. The paper plates, napkins and silverware were from the Dollar Store. I have learned that they are the best place to get party supplies for cheap!

I had my husband construct the “tree” from brown packing paper, which I picked up at Office Depot like the day before the party. I cut out the leaves from green construction paper and I made a couple of bumblebees from pipe cleaners and poked them into the yellow paper lantern, which I got in a three-pack from Party City.

My attempt at “Pooh nails”

12400801_10104579243685791_8115698824679345524_n

We did a “Pin the tail on Eeyore” that I found at Disney.

I made this “Pooh” outfit with yellow fabric paint and a red shirt and Pooh ears I got from Amazon. They also have Piglet and Tigger ears, which we had also.

I got these Winnie the Pooh plushes from the Disney store and printed out these quotes:

“As soon as I saw you, I knew an Adventure was about to happen.”
